Definition

Reception (also called serve receive) is the first contact a team makes to handle the opponent's serve. Reception quality is graded on a 0–3 scale that describes how many offensive options the resulting pass gives the setter. Also see Pass Quality.

Pass quality scale (0–3)

Q3 — PerfectSetter reaches target zone with full offensive options (quick, pipe, seam, angle).
Q2 — PositiveSetter has 2+ attack options but not all. Limited tempo attack may be difficult.
Q1 — NegativeSetter is forced — typically one attack option, no tempo play.
Q0 — Error/AceServe ace or unplayable pass. Point directly to the serving team.

Perfect Pass % (Q3)

> 35%

Indicates a platform good enough for tempo attack regularly.

Average Pass Quality

Ace-Against Rate

Fraction of receives scored as aces by the server.
