Setting efficiency formula

Setting Efficiency = (Assists − Setting Errors) ÷ (Assists + Setting Errors)

A setter with 30 assists and 3 setting errors has a setting efficiency of +0.818. Elite setters target above 0.90.

Key setter stats

Assists

Sets that lead directly to a kill. The primary volume stat for setters.

Setting Errors

Sets that cannot be attacked (caught, net violation, over/out) or that directly lose the point.

Setting Efficiency

(Assists − Errors) ÷ (Assists + Errors). Measures distributional accuracy.

Assists per Set

Volume metric. A starting setter at competitive club level typically averages 8–12 assists per set.
